Skansen, founded by Artur Hazelius in 1891, is the world's first open-air museum; museums in dozens of countries copied this model, and the word became a genre name in many languages. Around 150 buildings dismantled and moved here from across Sweden span the 14th to 20th centuries; inside, staff in period dress bake bread, blow glass, and forge iron. Part of the site is also a zoo of Scandinavian animals.
